At Hilo Rojo, we believe that true impact is not measured solely by figures, but by the stories of overcoming adversity that we build alongside each individual.

Through our programs, we seek to strengthen the community from childhood through adulthood by promoting education, protection, inclusion, nutrition, and sustainable development.

Children

We work with children in the Esparanza area of La Liberdad, Peru. Coming from areas of poverty, these children often don't have enough resources to go to school, eat regular meals or have a stable and loving living situation. Through Hilo Rojo’s programs, the children have an opportunity to be educated, loved and well fed.

    Why was this initiative created?
    Many children in our community grow up facing challenges in accessing educational support outside of school. A lack of resources, falling behind academically, and the absence of safe learning environments can impact their development and opportunities.

    We believe education is one of the most powerful tools for breaking the cycle of poverty.

    Objective
    To provide a safe space where children and adolescents can reinforce their learning, develop new skills, and discover their potential.

    Beneficiaries
    Children and adolescents aged 4 to 16.

    How do we do it?

    • Academic support.

    • Art, sports, and educational games.

    • Support from national and international volunteers.

  • An opportunity to keep dreaming "Because no child should have to drop out of school due to a lack of resources."

    Why was this initiative created?
    Many families make great efforts to ensure their children continue their education, but school-related expenses can become a difficult barrier to overcome.

    We believe that a little help can open up great opportunities.

    Objective
    To support the continued education of children and adolescents through the committed support of sponsors.

    Children and adolescents in vulnerable situations.

    How do we do it?

    • Support for school supplies.

    • Uniforms.

    • Communication between sponsors and beneficiaries.

  • English opens doors to the world "Because learning a new language shouldn't be a privilege."

    Why did this start?
    Many children will never have the chance to attend an English academy, and in many public schools, the time dedicated to the language is limited.

    We believe that learning English broadens horizons and creates new opportunities for the future.

    To make English learning accessible through cultural exchange with international volunteers.

    How do we do it?

    • Dynamic English classes.

    • Conversation with international volunteers.

  • A computer can change a future "Because a computer someone stopped using can become a child's first learning tool."

    Why did this start?
    Many of the children participating in our programs had never used a computer before. While technology is becoming essential for education and work, thousands of children are still growing up without access to digital tools.

    Instead of viewing old computers as waste, we see opportunities.

    Objective
    To bridge the digital divide by providing access to refurbished computer equipment and basic technology training.

    Beneficiaries
    Children and adolescents in the community.

    How do we do it?

    • We collect donated desktop and laptop computers.

    • We repair them with the help of volunteers.

    • We equip our Digital Learning Center.

    • We teach basic computer skills, internet use, and digital tools.

  • Every child deserves the opportunity to grow and develop "Because a disability should never be a barrier to learning, participating, and dreaming."

    Why was this initiative created?
    Many families with children who have disabilities face challenges in accessing therapies, inclusive activities, and spaces where their children can fully develop their potential.

    We believe that inclusion begins when the community offers opportunities for everyone.

    To promote the holistic development and inclusion of children with disabilities through adapted activities and family support.

    How do we do it?

Women

We know that in order to have a strong community, its women need to be empowered. That’s why Hilo Rojo works closely with the women of the Esparanza region to help improve their mental and physical wellbeing. These women often come from backgrounds of poverty and domestic violence. Through Hilo Rojo’s women programs they are able to build strong bonds, kinship and have a space to heal.

    Why was this initiative created?
    Many women have lacked access to opportunities for training, employment, or entrepreneurship, limiting their autonomy and their ability to improve their families' quality of life.

    We believe that supporting a woman means sowing well-being for future generations.

    Objective
    To strengthen women's personal and economic capabilities through training and support.

    Women and mothers in the community.

    How do we do it?

Community

By connecting with local community groups we are able to expand our programs and create a stronger tie between what we are doing and the people it is affecting. We work with other educational programs and people from the community to extend our reach and raise awareness of the importance of education in personal and societal development.

  • Second chances that nourish lives "Because we believe that what others discard can still change a life."

    Why did we start?
    Every day, perfectly good food and products are discarded, while many families struggle to meet their basic needs. At the same time, many parents devote much of their time to caring for children with disabilities or complex medical conditions, which limits their employment opportunities.

    Instead of seeing waste, we see opportunities to help.

    Objective
    To recover food and donations in order to reduce waste and strengthen food security for vulnerable families.

    Beneficiaries
    Vulnerable families and caregivers.

    How do we do it?

    • We recover food that is safe for consumption.

    • We accept donations from companies and individuals.

    • We sort the products.

    • We organize charity campaigns.

    • We distribute food to beneficiary families.
