Improving the lives of children, women and families in Peru since 2013

Our History

It all began with a teacher...

In 2013, teacher Rosmery Cruz Caballero decided to turn pain into hope.

After experiencing one of the most difficult moments of her life, she realized that the best way to honor love was to share it with those who needed it most.

She did not set out to create an organization.
She sought to create a family.
That is how Hilo Rojo was born.

What started by serving a few children in a small community school grew thanks to the support of neighbors, friends, and—later on—people from all over the world.

Over the years, that small initiative evolved into an organization that supports hundreds of children and families, proving that great transformations begin with small acts of love.

Our growth

What began as a small community school is now an organization that develops educational, social, and community programs impacting hundreds of people each year.

Over the years, we have built an international solidarity network comprising more than 500 local volunteers and over 1,800 volunteers from various countries.

Thanks to them and the commitment of our community, we have helped more than…

+1500 children
+800 women
+1000 family

Our Mission

At Hilo Rojo our fundamental goal is to improve the lives of children, women and families at risk of social exclusion in Trujillo, Peru. We do this through education, empowerment and engagement.

  • Education

We understand that education is one of the best ways to reduce social gaps and improve quality of life. That's why we continue to promote and develop educational projects in favor of those living in poverty, in particular, women and children.

  • Empowerment

Our vision is to have a generation of young people and women living in a community with equal opportunities and a decent future. With empathy and love Hilo Rojo continues to promote self-worth in a space where many have lost hope.

  • Engagement

We implement aid programs in the areas of education, health, nutrition, family planning and against child labour. By forming bonds with the people we work with Hilo Rojo can ensure the voices of the most vulnerable groups within our community are heard.

Our Projects

Every Hilo Rojo project is informed by the understanding that education is a key element in the wellbeing and growth of a society. We work primarily with women, children and families who are at risk of social exclusion due to poverty.

Our projects are run solely on donations and with the help of volunteers from around the globe. We have great ambitions for Hilo Rojo and with your help we can continue the fight for education and equality.
